About the Role:
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of bankruptcy law, and the ability to manage a variety of tasks while ensuring deadlines are met with precision.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive support to attorneys in the Bankruptcy department, including preparing legal documents, filings, and correspondence related to bankruptcy cases.
- Draft and review bankruptcy petitions, schedules, motions, proofs of claim, and other related documents.
- File bankruptcy petitions and motions with the court, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and deadlines.
- Manage case files, ensuring all documents are accurately organized, indexed, and maintained.
- Communicate with clients, courts, and other legal professionals to gather necessary information and provide updates on case status.
- Prepare bankruptcy forms, including Chapter 7, 11, and 13 filings, and assist in the preparation of disclosure statements and plans of reorganization.
- Coordinate meetings, hearings, and depositions, and assist in preparing necessary documents for these proceedings.
- Review and monitor court dockets and ensure all filings are timely and accurate.
- Conduct legal research and compile supporting documentation as needed for cases.
- Assist in the preparation of discovery documents, including interrogatories, requests for production, and responses.
- Perform general administrative duties, including managing attorneys' calendars, scheduling appointments, and handling confidential information with discretion.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal assistant in bankruptcy law, preferably in a law firm setting.
Strong knowledge of bankruptcy law, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 cases. (Chapter 11 experience strongly preferred)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal software (e.g., Clio, Relativity, or similar).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, attorneys, and other staff.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving and managing deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Knowledge of e-filing systems and court rules for Texas bankruptcy courts
